The Hub of Detroit is “a non-profit, full-service retail bike shop. Funds raised by The Hub support our free youth program, Back Alley Bikes.”
I happened by The Hub of Detroit a couple of weekends ago, and while I wouldn’t exactly describe it as a “full service” retail bike shop just yet, their hearts are definitely in the right place. Their aim is to help kids in the Cass Corridor obtain, maintain and repair bikes, and they’re going to use the bike store to support their efforts. There’s much more about the program here.
They’re having a ‘grand opening’ celebration August 9, from 7 to 10. I don’t know much else about The Hub, but as I mentioned above, it seems like a very dedicated and community-minded organization that is operating on a shoestring.
