Tour de not Hood

I’m heading south of the Mason-Dixon line for a vaca, but will try to find hood-like objects on my rides.

Wistful Thinking

Rapha is a British Company that makes very very nice “Roadwear” clothing. Given the current valuelessness of the US Dollar, everything is eerily expensive. Even their very very nice “t” shirts:  (Hint: a perfect gift for a cyclist you know). This one’s graphic is of the spectrogram of EPO (a favorite Tour France-style athletic enhancement drug).

The Hub of Detroit

The Hub of Detroit is “a non-profit, full-service retail bike shop. Funds raised by The Hub support our free youth program, Back Alley Bikes.”
I happened by The Hub of Detroit a couple of weekends ago, and while I wouldn’t exactly describe it as a “full service” retail bike shop just yet, their hearts are definitely in [...]

Support Cycling in Detroit

The Bureau of Urban Living is fabulous store on Canfield and Cass (just off the TDH Route, a block North of the Avalon International Bakery) that sells home goods and gifts. They’ve got a nifty selection of stuff you won’t find everywhere.

More to the point, the First Thursday of every month, they donate 10% of [...]

Schwalbe tires are great

I love Schwalbe tires. I’ve used their Marathon slicks, my touring bike has their Marathons on it, and I just put a pair of Schwalbe Stelvios on my fixed gear.

The Stelvios feel great, are light, are pretty easy to install, and can be inflated to 145 lbs./sq. in. After a more reasonable time span, I’ll [...]

Most surprising street in downtown Detroit

Most of the photos you see here on the TDH blog are pretty much what you’d expect Detroit to look like. Sunday, however, I took a smallish detour over to Canfield & Second. These are wholly awful pictures, but I think you’ll agree you never thought you’d see Victorian homes and Belgian-Block cobblestones just off [...]

Tour de hood rider count triples

I had two fellow travelers on the TDH today. FIrst, Mr. X, who hasn’t yet fully approved his photograph. (He’s not normally pixillated). Here he is enjoying the Heidelberg project.

Next, Corey, who’s a friend of Mr. X. He looks much better in person. I took the photo with Mrs. misterarthur’s mobile phone, and I couldn’t [...]
